Dean of International Programs, Elon University - 09/08
Nationally recognized for a vibrant study abroad program and a 2007 recipient of NAFSA's Paul Simon Internationalization of the Campus Award, Elon University invites applications for the position of Dean of International Programs and Director of the Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies (ICCIS). The Dean will provide visionary and innovative leadership to expand and deepen Elon's role as a leader in international education and internationalization of the campus.
Currently Elon offers 30 January term study abroad courses, administers semester programs in Great Britain, Costa Rica and Italy, has affiliations or exchange agreements with more than 30 semester abroad programs, and manages a small but growing number of summer study abroad programs. Seventy-one percent of the Class of 2008 and 24 percent of all students enrolled during the 2007-08 academic year studied abroad.
Along with oversight and setting direction for the international programs, the Dean's responsibilities include leading the internationalization of the campus. This includes the attraction of international students, scholars and visitors to the campus, and coordination with departments, faculty and students to promote international activities and enhance international content in the curriculum. Additionally, the ICCIS, under the direction of the Dean, provides programming and advocacy for international students and faculty, coordinates the schedule and activities of two visiting international faculty annually, and sponsors programming for the Isabella Cannon Pavilion, a 22-student residence with a live-in faculty member.
The Dean reports to the Associate Provost, oversees nine staff members, serves on the University Academic Affairs Council and Provost's Council, and performs other leadership roles on campus.

Position Requirements:
Applicants should have extensive international experience including involvement in study abroad. A Ph.D. or terminal degree and leadership and administrative experience in an academic setting are preferred. The applicant must be committed to working with colleagues from a wide range of departments and programs and show leadership in developing such interactions. Familiarity with US Citizenship and Immigration Services and other federal regulations is helpful. The successful applicant should be available no later than June 1, 2009.

Administrative Assistant, Vice Presidents, Field and Program Activities - 08/08

Description:
The primary role of the Administrative Assistant is to provide administrative support to the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities. The Administrative Assistant independently performs a broad range of tasks aimed at providing information to and on behalf of the Vice Presidents. Further, the Administrative Assistant provides assistance in the overall management of the offices of the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities.
The Administrative Assistant reports to the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities and works in cooperation with other members of senior staff and regional directors.
Responsibilities:
Research
- Gathers information, at the request of the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities from a broad range of internal and external sources including: internet, archives, current files, published materials, etc.; and
- Produces reports, as requested by the Vice President or other members of senior staff, using computer-based spreadsheet, database, and/or text files.
Finance
- Prepares check requests for payments and reimbursements for expenses related to Vice Presidents’ offices; and
- Assists in the preparation of financial reporting documents for the offices of the Vice Presidents.
External Relations
- Serves as liaison with representatives of other organizations (e.g. attorneys, etc.) on the Vice Presidents’ behalf;
- Prepares and distributes invitations, notes, responses, etc. on behalf of the Vice Presidents; and
- Assists in responding to requests for information from the offices of the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities.
Travel
- Assists with travel arrangements for the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities;
- Serves as liaison with hosting organization concerning logistics of travel (e.g. lodging, arrival/departure, transportation, etc.); and
- Obtains passport and visas.
General Office Support
- Assists in the scheduling of appointments for the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities;
- Assists in obtaining official documents required for overseas office operations;
- Places outgoing telephone calls and faxes for the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities;
- Serves as the Vice Presidents’ liaison with office staff as needed;
- Organizes and maintains office files, reports, legal documents, records, etc.;
- Places orders for materials, supplies, memberships, subscriptions, etc. for the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities;
- Maintains address, phone, and e-mail lists; prepares and distributes correspondence; coordinates and carries out mailings; and
- Prepares typewritten copy, proofreads, prints, and photocopies materials.
Other Duties
- Updates American Councils’ internet website, adding content and pictures and ensuring event lists are current.
- Provides assistance to the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities with related activities involving external parties: opening bank accounts, government reports/filings, etc.; and
- Performs other related duties and handles projects as requested by the Vice Presidents for Field and Program Activities or other members of senior staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, website and database software
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Russian language skills required
Vice President, Strategic Marketing - 08/08

Description:
The Vice President, Strategic Marketing, is a newly created position reporting to the President. S/he will have primary responsibility for planning and executing the organization’s marketing and business development strategies, while working in close cooperation with all members of senior management. The Vice President is charged with overseeing development and execution of strategies to add new business aligned with American Councils’ mission by drawing on its strengths in educational development, programs, and services.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and experience with all aspects of international marketing, business development, promotion and proposal development;
- Minimum of 10 years experience successfully managing business development; Experience managing a department of professionals working in marketing, sales and/or business development;
- Strong motivational, listening, and leadership skills;
- Ability to think tactically, creatively, and strategically;
- Strong background in both strategic planning and operations, with an understanding of how to create and deploy strategies across the full range of business development areas;
- Experience with international studies, exchange programs, or teaching of English as a second language, a plus;
- Knowledge of, and success with marketing to colleges and universities preferred;
- A vision, with the proven ability to see things from a fresh, high level perspective while simultaneously staying focused on the mission;
- Solid skills in budget forecasting and planning;
- Articulate, with proven ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Ability to travel periodically on a domestic and international basis;
- Strong commitment to the mission of American Councils;
- Impeccable personal and professional integrity, with an ability to inspire confidence and cooperation;
