Russian 200/500 | Special Topics (Taught in English): Russian Politics | (1.0 Unit)

This course provides students with an in-depth understanding of some of the most pressing issues currently affecting Russia, including the war in Chechnya, Russia’s relations with the West, the Putin presidency, and the emergence of new political parties and political figures. Students are expected to participate actively in class discussions, dialogues, and debates, as well as to prepare in-class presentations and write short compositions.

Russian 201/501 | Special Topics (Taught in English): Russian Economics | (1.0 Unit)

Topics covered include the transition from communism to the current economy, problems of corruption and organized crime, and the conflict over Yukos Oil. Additionally, coursework will provide perspectives on the complex historical and cultural trends that have shaped Russia in the 21st Century. Students are expected to participate actively in class discussions, dialogues, and debates, as well as to prepare in-class presentations and write short compositions.
