Overseas Russian Flagship Program
Russian 516 | Modern Russian: Theory and Methods | (1.0 Unit)
The course is designed to help students gain superior proficiency in reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking through formal study of Russian grammatical structures and practical training targeted toward each student's professional field. Students will examine some of the finer points of Russian grammar, semantics and pragmatics using linguistic methodological tools. Instruction will be tailored to the students' individual needs, highlighting the most common problem areas in their Russian language competence.
Russian 538 | Elective Course in Field of Specialization | (1.0 Unit)
The course focuses on the development of superior-level Russian conversation skills in each student’s individual field of specialization. Students will be expected to actively participate in regular class discussions and debates on a variety of topics, ranging from current events and general interest issues to those pertinent to their professional or academic interests. It will emphasize the improvement of presentation skills, such as effective delivery, fluency, appropriate vocabulary use, correct use of discourse markers and other cohesive devices, and mastery of Russian intonation and phonetics.
Russian 563 | Directed Research and Analysis I | (1.0 Unit)
The course will be directed at the improvement of general research skills in Russian. Students will read a variety of research articles on selected topics, paying particular attention to their stylistic and organizational aspects. It emphasizes the development of students' ability to express complex abstract thoughts and structure their writing to fit a particular discourse model acceptable to a Russian audience.
